Charities
Every year the NZFSA has the pleasure of being able to raise awareness of select charities and also help raise funds for their worthwhile causes along the way. At least one dollar from every calendar sold is currently donated to our principal charity, The Child Cancer Foundation. This relationship was developed through a very close association between firefighters, their families, and an intimate association with the CCF some 21 years ago. We are very proud to boast this relationship has grown over the years, and we are continuing to look at ways of further strengthening this bond, and modernising our fundraising methods too.
With the attraction of High profile television shows, an annual launch of the calendar, and the development of our website and social media networking sites, we are also able to benefit other charities as well. In 2009, we invited two other New Zealand charities, the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Burn Centre become partners with the NZ Fire Service NZ Firefighter Sports Association and the Child Cancer Foundation in a firefighter special of the television show "Wheel of Fortune". $50,000 in cash and prizes was shared amongst the three charities, and there was a massive boost to the profile of all three charities due to a week's worth of prime time TV exposure.
We will continue to develop our fundraising activities in the future, and any feedback is welcome from you! We have asked all three charities to have their say on their work, our relationship and the calendar itself.
The Child Cancer Foundation
"The Child Cancer Foundation was formed in 1978 with its key focus to provide emotional and financial support to children with cancer and their families.
The Foundation also provides scholarships to children whose lives have been affected by cancer and we work closely with the health professionals who provide treatment to our children, supporting their professional development and research projects in childhood cancer.
As an organisation we receive no government funding and rely solely on the generosity of the New Zealand public to deliver the services we offer and for this reason we are extremely grateful to be able to continue our partnership with the New Zealand Fire Service and be the recipient charity for this year’s Fire Fighters Calendar.
The New Zealand Fire Fighters’ support of the Foundation over the last 18 years through calendar sales is a natural extension of what is core to what Fire Fighters do – service and commitment to others.
